The infrastructure work nobody sees, and why that's a problem
2 July 2026 · 5 min read
Someone hardened a network last night. Someone migrated a bank's core systems over a weekend. None of it is visible outside the organisation that paid for it.
This is not a vanity problem. It is a pay and progression problem. When work cannot be shown, it cannot be priced, and people are hired on proxies instead, such as school, accent, or the name of a previous employer.
The fix is not to publish confidential material. It is to have a record of what you did that someone else can stand behind.
